MEET CARISSA

Carissa has been performing since childhood- singing at church, various events and participating in musical theater from a young age. She began vocal training 25 years ago at the University of NC at Pembroke, and eight years ago began classical vocal training in two studios of music including Dr. Kim’s Studio. In May, she graduated with honors with a Bachelor of Arts in Music from UNCP, focusing on vocal performance and music theory. Carissa has more than 40 years of experience singing genres that require different vocal techniques including worship, pop, jazz, musical theater, and classical/opera.

Carissa serves on the worship team at CrossWay Church and directs the choir and provides vocal coaching for its members. She continues to develop her skills and grow as a musician through ongoing study and performance opportunities.

For the past six years, Carissa has taught voice lessons through New Song and in other settings, working with students of all ages and skill levels to develop capable and confident performers. At New Song, Carissa seeks to encourage and uplift her students. By getting to know each student as an individual with unique skills and learning styles, Carissa tailors her teaching approach to meet them where they are-nurturing their musical growth and personal confidence. She is committed to being a role model, and strives to demonstrate to her students a genuine love for music and people.

WHAT PEOPLE ARE SAYING

P.L

Taking lessons with Miss Carissa was a wonderful experience. I learned a lot from her and she's an incredibly understanding and engaging teacher.

M.R

My 8-year-old daughter had an incredible experience at her first voice recital with New Song School of Music — a proud moment, especially after overcoming the challenges of a moderate tongue tie and surgery. We’re so grateful to her instructor, Carissa Ospina, for her patience, encouragement, and expert guidance over the past few months. Thanks to Carissa, not only has my daughter’s singing and speech improved significantly, but her confidence has grown as well. We couldn’t be happier with the progress she’s made!

K.C

I’ve been singing for as long as I can remember at family gatherings, church, anywhere there was music. Even though I loved it, I never had any formal training. Taking singing lessons was one of the best decisions I’ve made. It helped me unlearn bad habits, strengthen my voice, and really understand my range. What surprised me most was how much I have grown in confidence. Mrs.Carissa didn’t try to change who I was as a singer, she helped me become the best version of the voice I already had.
